Although you may regret the way you've raised your child, it is never too late to create a strong connection. Commit to creating a strong connection with your teen, even though, initially, you will probably be rejected.

Parenting troubled teens is never easy and different parents will have different approaches. The teen years won’t last forever so don’t focus too much on your kid being a troubled teen forever. Instead, focus on helping your child deal with his problems so he can become the man you have dreamed he would become.

• Connect to your teen via his interests. What does your child love to do? For example, take your teen to a music store, let him pick out his favorite music and go home and listen to it together.
• Your teen, though troubled, is on his way to becoming your peer. Treat him with respect. Have compassion. Share stories of your adolescent struggles that are appropriate to what your teen is going through.
• When you must exert your power as an authority, wield it wisely and only in the best interests of your child. If your teen is acting in ways that endanger himself or others, seek the help of a qualified professional. Don't hand your child over and make him someone else's problem, rather, engage him fully in the journey of transformation from a child into an adult.
• Patience

When it comes to parentin your troubled teen you need to have patience. You may need to send your child to a teen treatment center and this will also require patience for the program to work.

• Proactive

As soon as you notice signs that your child is troubled you need to be proactive. Perhaps consider boot camps for teens way before you believe the boot camp is actually necessary. Being proactive could reduce the intensity and length of your teens problems.

• Unified Front

Many times parents are at odds with the decision they must make regarding their troubled teen. You must show a united front at all times. This includes considering military boarding schools for the child even if one parent is against this idea.
