The keyboard and the cellphones keypad have been around since 1970’s, and it is only recently that the impact of keyboard and the cellphones keypad has been brought to notice. In some experts opinion “if a child is taught how to write in an organized manner, she/he tends to have an organized character. The loss of this tool is worrying”.

The keyboard and the cellphones keypad are now mightier than the pen. And it seems children of age school or pre-school are forgetting how to write by hand. Many orthopedic surgeons have confirmed that cases typing related stress injuries are on the rise. Though the ill effects of cellphones or keyboard computer was seen earlier. It was not so much about the effects than other issues.

It is hard to explain that child nowadays spend more time using their computers than pencils and ball pens. And because of that, they might end having bad penmanship which is very shameful when they will reach adulthood. A practice in writing with pencils and ball pens develop a child’s character because he/she learns how to be patient and be organized.

Never mind the kids forgetting how to write by hand I am sure the kids are fine, they learn to read and write at school and them wont forget it as easily as that. But what is more frightening is that they absolutely do not read anymore! And believe me, reading on the Internet doesn’t count. Looks like we are getting back to pictograms. But if children do not write anymore, who’s going to create it? Computers? Experts? Sounds funny but it’s really sad in its ironic manner.

I think there is still a solution to this problem. Parents should impose rules in the house, the kids must do their homeworks first, practice their writing ability more, and spend lesser time in front of the computer. Only parents can impose rules and make their children write so that they are in the habit of writing. I used to teach few years back when I had a period of handwriting. It gave me real pleasure when I used to see how children were improving their handwriting. This practice should continue in every house I wish.

Also, our goal as parents is to raise kids who believe in their ability to build develop their intelligence. These kids are perpetual learners — they can learn what they need to in new situations and are always curious to learn more.

Parents must develop children that are caring, generous, thoughtful people. I think teaching, reading and academics are of huge importance in the life of any 21st century human. Make sure you as a parent give solutions for your children that does not “kill” that instinct/ability.
